Hair Dryer
Which small household appliance do you use the most? Hair dryer is the one that I use the most. It is also the one that bothers me the most because two hands are needed to dry my hair at the same time. I tried to solve this problem in my final year project. The design was inspired by my personal experience, the scene of classic movie and my curiosity in exploring the new way of using the hair dryer. Moreover, this hair dryer is a low thermal hair dryer with automatic temperature adjustment which is market driven and innovative.

Marketing Research —
Research was needed to find target market. Attractive analysis and competitor analysis were used to decide China as the target market. For marketing approach, heterogeneous product was designed as it was a popular trend. People from age 25 to 34 had higher purchasing power who were target customers.

Inspiration —
A classic scene in HK film “Days of Being Wild” inspired me to design a product that create stylish & cool mood shown in the movie. The gesture in the film was used in the design. For solving overheating problem, factors that affect evaporation rate were my direction.

Form Development —
Different forms were constructed which followed the rule of Form Follow Function.

Idea Testing —
Wind tunnel tests were conducted for testing the feasibility of the tunnel constructed. Besides, three men were invited for recording how they used new design and then I modified size and form of the design.

Simulation and Safety Testing —
Ultrasonic sensor was used for automatic temperature adjustment. And the safety testing was about testing thickness of material required for handling heat problem. Exploded view is shown.

Design for Manufacturing —
BOM and assembly flow were created for manufacturing purposes.
